Some parts of this book aged like milk, and most parts made me cry tears of new understanding because my eyes were opened to the world in a new way as I tasted the sweet notes of literary mastery and metaphorical genius in this magnum opus of a chocolate cake book. And I love the bone chilling Cathy character and I love Adam dearly and I wish water for Samuel and I see my aunt’s mom in Olive and the years of wandering Adam did after the military seems as improbable and exaggerated as the years Forrest Gump spent running across the US.
I’m not halfway through yet but I’m so interested to see what Adam’s child will grow up to be. Or I should say who. And I wonder what will happen to Samuel and if the narrator will describe himself.
Edit: This book was downright depressing. Everyone dies? And Aaron dies and Caleb gets the girl?? And I hated how it ended. Nothing redeeming came out of it. No justice for Cathy, no justice for the Hamilton’s legacy.
