A poem by middle school me

Where I’m from, pillow forts are a

necessity

Dominos and hot wheel tracks

especially

Veggie tales and Tom and Jerry and Disney

From flashing pink crocs and tinker toy shops

I’m from bootcut jeans and princess

dress up stuff, pigtails bouncing

Where I’m from, Black Lab Pizza is a

delicacy

Dino chicken nuggets with ketchup is my mom’s specialty

Where I’m from, Cuzn’s camp and bummin around Otter Slough is my

paradise

Leaverites and embers burn bright ‘round the smoky campfire

I’m from musty tan couches and velvety couch cushions

Where I’m from, lego spaceships and sips of

melted otter pop packs, splashing in the

sprinkler in summer and pink are just a few of my favorite things

In my closet is a white box with a rectangular lid

Inside are treasures kept from moments past

A reminder that

where I’m from

I am loved
